Hey Townies, meet Axel 🐕, our new arrival at Dogtown. We were alerted to him a week or so ago, he had apparently been running around in our area since December and was in a terrible condition.  He was spotted a few times but by the time we were alerted, he was long gone. On Tuesday we received a call that he was in the same area again and thankfully the lady who spotted him could meet us and take us straight to him. Savannah and Mgcini managed to catch him and he was rushed off to the vet where he was treated for ticks, dewormed and vaccinated. He stayed overnight at the vet while we shuffled dogs to try and make a space for this poor boy. He is absolutely riddled with ticks and really skinny. We also had to cut off a makeshift leather collar tied with wire as it was really tight. Please SMS AXEL to 38919 to donate R10 towards his care.

Another new addition to our family is beautiful Joy. This poor girl has been on our waiting list for over a year to come into Dogtown. The length of the waiting list just shows the incredible need for our work to help those who so desperately need our expertise. Fortunately for Joy her family booked her into the pet lodge until space could be made in Dogtown. So many doggies, just don’t have the time afforded to them that the waiting list needs and we sadly can’t help them when they need it most. I don’t think this is acceptable so we need to find a way to help and save more lives. We just have to.

We also welcomed old boy Liam. He was found as a stray by one of our staff members on her way to work one morning. Cannot believe that his family are not looking for him, he really is the sweetest most loving boy ever! Hopefully we will be able to find him a forever family in no time!

sms LIAM to 38919 to donate R10 towards his care.

Then of course we have little Summer. This teeny tiny little kitten was found on the side of the road and after a visit to the vet, promptly made her way into foster care with Savannah, one of our caregivers. The little girl is only about 4 weeks old so still needs lots of care and regular feedings. She will be up for adoption in a few weeks time.

sms SUMMER to 38919 to donate just R10 towards her care.

If I’ve realised anything this year so far, it’s this. We need to find a way to help more dogs and somehow find more funds to continue and expand our work. Please hear my plea today to sign up for a monthly debit order. It can be R50 a month and that R50 will help us save lives that so badly need us. If we can increase our monthly debit orders this money will help us expand our capacity to save more lives and it will give those dogs who literally have nowhere else to go that chance they really need.

Please, please will you email pat@dogtownsa.org and sign up today. We can no longer gloss over the serious situation dogs are finding themselves in our country. I can no longer accept that we cannot help these dogs because we don’t have enough funds. I am failing them, we are failing them and we need to become more aggressive in finding the funds to do more. We need to really step up to the plate and save these dogs and we can only do that with your help.
