Hello, my name is Missy & Pups!
More about me
Male-Female (Medium). Africanis. Under-1 - DOB: 2016 & 2018.
Missy, a female Africanis was dumped in the middle of the night on the road alongside a local (Villiersdorp) wine farm. She hid her puppies in a pipe for a few days until the farmer was alerted to her presence by the workers.
On Friday, they lured her out with boerewors and were on their way to take her to the SPCA, when I heard about them. The workers had come to the TUFCAT Sanctuary to collect their kennels – they were very unhappy about taking the dog to the welfare (although they knew it was better than leaving her as she would likely be shot).
After hearing about this canine family I could not stop thinking about them as was aware they stood little chance at an already full welfare over a weekend. I quickly deliberated (thinking where I could put them) and then called the farmer. He was very accommodating and both him and his wife were happy that the dog and her pups would be given a chance.
So, Missy and her 8 beautiful babies are with TUFCAT. They are fat and healthy and likely to be medium to largish dogs. They are 3-4 weeks old and have started eating by themselves.
Missy on the other hand was covered in ticks, is painfully thin and covered in burn marks. Despite everything she has been through she is a sweet, gentle dog who is an excellent mother.
TUFCAT will vaccinate the pups and help with sterilisations. But we just have to find homes asap. There are 6 females and 2 males. We can bring them to Cape Town or relocate elsewhere to suitable home/s. Usual home-checks apply.
