4 years ago we got a call on a Sunday afternoon from a lady in our area that rescues animals. Roxy and Bruno were left behind at a Property in table View when the owners moved out. They were left alone for 2 years. Neighbours were feeding them by throwing food over the wall for that 2 years. When we got the call, the AACL were to fetch them the Monday morning to have them put down. We couldn’t bare the thought and went to fetch them, despite having 6 rescue dogs already. We could not put them with our dogs so took them to work. They were well taken care of and spent their days in the workshop with all the guys who spoiled them and played with them daily. The doggie wash came every month to wash & groom them. This was until 3 months ago, because we saw Bruno’s hearing going and realised he could no longer see.
We brought them to our home realising Bruno’s time was short and wanted to spend extra time with him before he went over the rainbow bridge, although we still have 3 other dogs.
In Bruno’s last days, he couldn’t walk or get up anymore because his back legs gave in and we had to make the hard decision to have him put down.
They both got along with all the other dogs, but for some reason our rescue female, Tammy, cannot stand Roxy. Roxy does not mind her, but Tammy just wants to attack her all the time when she sees her. Tammy has Epilepsy, and is anxious all the time. I’m afraid that Tammy will attack her and, although not in her nature, I cannot blame Roxy if she chooses to defend herself.
Since Bruno left Friday a week ago, Roxy has been extremely nervous and scared all the time (like she was when we got her).
I think she will flourish with a dog loving person who can teach her the confidence we managed to teach her before Bruno went to heaven.
She is fine with other dogs & children, but we don’t have cats, so I cannot say.
She is very sweet and needs loving care. She is very skittish (due to the circumstances she came from) and lacks self confidence. She is an excellent watch dog. She will ONLY bark when there is someone in the yard. Otherwise she is not a barking dog. Not aggressive at all and will not bite or attack.
She is vaccinated & will be spayed before homing.
