Hello, my name is Solly!
More about me
Male (Medium). Africanis. Adult - DOB: 2013.
Shelter: PETS (Gauteng)
We seriously need everyone to please help us find the right home for Solly. There has to be the perfect home out there for him. He has to be out of his foster home by the end of the year and if we can’t find the right home we will have to consider euthanasia as the kindest thing for him.
Solly is a very special dog to us. This gorgeous boy had a very difficult life in the township and came to us extremely scared of anything and everything. Solly was adopted to the most incredible home who rehabilitated him and he became the loving, sweet boy he is today. Unfortunately Solly and another dog in the family were not getting along and this has caused multiple fights, the last one being very serious. After consulting a Behaviourist we all agreed that rehoming him would be best for his safety. He has been in foster care since the incident in December 2016.
Solly is being fostered at a doggy daycare which was meant to only be a temporary solution as this is the wrong environment for a dog like him. He is very stressed with the daycare being a busy environment and new dogs coming in all the time and his anxiety comes across as hyperactivity and barking which annoys the other dogs. He cannot stay there any longer for his own well being. He is losing weight and his Behaviour is becoming worse. He has been put on medication to try control this anxiety but because the environment is not right for him the vet and Behaviorists say he would only get better in a different environment without so many dogs.
Solly needs a quiet home with structure where he will get lots of attention and go for walks.
He is an escape artist so he must have a very secure home with high walls.
He is good with cats and although he is ok with other dogs he will need to be in a home on his own or otherwise with ONE other dog who is very tolerant and who will not get stressed out when Solly exhibits stressed behavior.
He needs a home with no young kids as they can be busy and noisy and this will stress him.
Solly is an extremely loving dog. He loves nothing better than tummy tickles and lying on your lap. He is toilet trained, well mannered and very loyal to his family. He is a really great companion to have. If he were to still need behavioral medication in his new home we have a sponsor who will cover this cost for the rest of his life. But being in the right environment he may not need medication at all.
