Sometimes, finding the right home takes a little longer than we hoped.
Charlie was rescued from an abusive home and taken in by a kind-hearted foster family who gave him the safety and care he desperately needed.
There was something quite special about Charlie. He had the elegant build of a sighthound, perhaps Saluki or Borzoi in him, along with qualities that reminded us of a wolf. With his striking looks, enormous size and those wonderfully long legs, we thought applications would come flooding in.
Charlie waited and waited for the right home, but eventually, a promising application came through. The meet-and-greet went well, and he was adopted.
Sadly, it soon became clear that the home wasn't the right fit. Charlie began showing signs of dominance towards the other male dog, and despite everyone's best efforts, he wasn't settling in as we had hoped.
With broken hearts, Charlie was brought to Dogtown, BarkingMad’s sister shelter.
For a dog who had already been through so much, we knew Charlie deserved a family who would understand him, give him time and love him for exactly who he was.
Then, finally, his people came along.
A family came to meet Charlie, and something just clicked. They fell in love with this big, long-legged boy, and Charlie found the home we had been waiting for him to find.
Sometimes the journey home isn't a straight line. Sometimes it takes a few turns, a little more patience and the right people coming along at exactly the right time.
