ACANA South African Director, Sonja Maricevic, is asking the public to be on the lookout for her office cat that has been missing since 14 January.

Maricevic said at first, two of her three ACANA rescue cats went missing, but one has since returned. CCTV footage revealed that the two cats climbed into the wheel well of the delivery vehicle, which then left the office a few minutes later.

“I am so grateful that we have found our black cat, Chicken, unharmed but my heart is still broken about our black and brown tortoiseshell cat, Babbaganoush,” said Maricevic.

She asked residents of Strydom Park, Randburg, Blairgowrie, Craighall Park, Oaklands, Orange Grove, Krugersdorp and Cosmo City to be on the lookout, as these are all the areas the delivery truck visited.

Babbaganoush is an 8 year old, female Tortoiseshell cat, black and brown colouring with a black face and no white. She is micro chipped but wasn’t wearing a collar at the time of her disappearance. Maricevic says that she is easily frightened and living on the streets would be very stressful for her.

The company thought both cats must have jumped out at the truck’s first stop in Strydom Park and originally focused their search efforts in this area. A Tortoiseshell cat was spotted a number of times in the area and after a week, Maricevic managed to catch it in a feral cat trap, but sadly it wasn’t Babbaganoush.

ACANA is now offering a reward of R20 000 to anyone who can give information leading to her safe return. “She is part of our family and we want her back”, said Maricevic. She asks that people don’t try catch every Tortoiseshell cat that they see, but rather to call 083 449 5409 or even send a picture via Whatsapp to this number.
