It is with a very heavy heart that I write this email, although I know it is the right thing for me to do.
I have a beautiful 2 and a half year old fawn bullmastiff named Levi who I need to find a new home for as she has begun fighting with our female labrador. The two have grown up together although my lab is slightly older, and they are normally inseparable but we have recently had a few nasty incidents.
After lengthy discussions, the consensus is that it is a dominance issue, given her age. Apparently this is very common and the suggestion that has been made is to keep the dogs separately.
My boyfriend and I have given it much thought and we have decided that it would be best for us to try re-home her. We have a three year old boy and we just couldn’t bear it if something were to happen. We have already been injured trying to separate the dogs. I ended up having surgery on my finger. Whilst I am very heartsore, I am hopeful that I will find a loving home for my gorgeous girl.
As mentioned above, Levi is two and a half years old. She is a beautiful, gentle and loving dog. She really is my big baby and is very docile and friendly. I got her from a couple in Pretoria who I understand are not registered breeders. They were originally from Zimbabwe and grew up with the breed. Whilst both Levi’s parents were KUSA registered, I decided not to have her registered as is was not my intention to breed with her.
She has been sterilized and she has a micro-chip. All her vaccinations are up to date.
She did go to puppy classes when she was younger and she is a very obedient girl.
Strangely, she loves swimming and loves to play with the hosepipe. Whilst she will chase the ball, she will not pick it up or bring it back to you. She loves her daily biscuit treat and the occasional hoof to chew on. She is not a fan of thunderstorms. Even though she is a big girl, she absolutely loves to cuddle.
I also have a male Belgian Mallinois and a little female cocker spaniel(who is very old), and Levi gets on great with these two.
I believe that she would be best suited to a home with another male dog, or where she can be an only dog.
