Buddy’s prayer

As we all know, Buddy is Dogtown’s first resident. He’s not so young anymore. He is also the Godfather of Dogtown for many consecutive years now. If you know Buddy as I do, you will know what a special dog he is……

Apart from training this old dog some new tricks (in my heart I know he knows it all already, but he does it anyway just to humor me), we spend most days in his house. Him lying on his special mattress, close to me, while I sit next to him and we talk about everything.

The other day he voiced a concern and asked me to write down this prayer for all of you peeps. And because when the Godfather of Dogtown speaks, I listen. So here goes…

Dear Lord,

Please watch over our humans because they are so weak. They have no claws or teeth so they can’t run fast or fly away, neither can they burrow or build a nest in which they would be safe. They smell bad, do strange things that aren’t altogether intelligent. They cannot communicate with us most of the time, although we can figure out what they want.

Give us the ability to watch over our humans, care for them, cheer them up when they are down, make them laugh, smile and let us shower them with our love. We pray that we can bring a little joy into their otherwise boring existence. Please let them know that when we insist on getting attention, it is only because we want to check their emotional well-being so that we can boost their spirit and morale.

We know they expect us to know what they want even though sometimes they don’t know what we want, but some of them really try hard, and we know they love us and our love for them remain intensely unfaltering.

Please allow us to continue proving the humans they are worth the effort and that we love them very much!

So, this is what Buddy and all his friends want to let us know.

Now, my question is: “Don’t YOU want this special dog to be part of your household?
