BarkingMad is a networking platform where we can assist families and rescue centres with rehoming their animals. We make use of foster homes when we have them available, but as a rule we do not have a physical shelter. BarkingMad can assist with networking lost and found pets, responsible rehoming of pets and finding a suitable pet for your family to adopt. We are also here to help you keep your pets.

Does BarkingMad run a shelter?
No — we're a networking platform that connects shelters, rescuers and the public. We don't have a physical facility, but the animals featured on the site are cared for by verified shelter partners around South Africa.
How does adopting through BarkingMad work?
Browse the pets listed on the site, then enquire directly with the shelter caring for the animal. Each shelter runs its own adoption process — usually an application, a meet-and-greet and a home check — and we're here to help if you get stuck along the way.
How do I list a pet for adoption?
Registered shelter partners can list pets through the Shelter Portal. If you're a private owner who needs to rehome a pet responsibly, our Network Team will connect you with the right partner shelter — email network@barkingmad.co.za.
I've lost my pet — what should I do?
Post on our Lost & Found page as soon as possible with a clear photo and the area where your pet went missing. Also notify your nearest shelters and vets — microchipped pets are often reunited within days.
I've found a stray — how can I help?
Check for a tag or take the animal to any vet to scan for a microchip (it's free). Then list them on our Lost & Found page so their family can find them. If you can't keep them safe in the meantime, a partner shelter can help.
Is Click to Feed really free?
Yes! Every click is sponsored by Montego Pet Nutrition. You can feed up to 5 times per day at no cost to you — every tap funds a real shelter meal.
Where does my donation go?
Every rand goes toward feeding rescues, supporting partner shelters and reuniting lost pets with their families. BarkingMad is donor-funded, and our running costs are covered by our sponsor.
How can my shelter join the network?
We'd love to have you. Email louise@barkingmadinc.org or call Shelter Support on 060 585 6012 — our team will walk you through verification and get your animals listed.
